In this assignment we were put together by our tutor to make a music video, I picked Live wire a song call Gunshot. The genre of the music is reggae/Dance hall basement. The group we were in is me, Matabishi and Paulo.
The equipment we used was a Sony HVR-A1E with an external microphone, a Manfrotto tripod and a portable stereo. I have used this equipment before so I have lot of experience with it. The 3 locations we used were Westend arcade but we change to Lenton Abbey’s alleyway, Arbotume Park and a Confetti live studio.
We change location from Westend Arcade to Lenton Abbey because one of the dancers let us down, so the nearest dancer available is near Lenton abbey.
My video is lip-syncing. How I edit on final cut.
I put the footage in my viewer, as the singer start to sing I put in point then an out point where he stop singer.
Then on the timeline, I put in and out marker were singer start to sing then I drag the footage from the viewer to the in point on time line to get lip syncing.
When I film on the day, I used a portable stereo, so when I edit it will be easier. Without the portable stereo it will make it hard for me to lip-sync because I can’t hear anything.
This music video took us two days to shoot.
Production crew member are Waiman (Director), Matabishi (camera man), Amal and Chris got involved as a camera man too (DOP).
The Artist is Live wire.
The three dancers are 2morrow, April and Nadege.
I got hold of all the dancers from Amal and Matabishi.
I used one tape around 40 minutes of footage all through my shooting.
Audiences which I target are 18 to late 20’s lots of swear words are involve which I needs to bleep out in post-production.
I will make two version of my music video, censored and uncensored.
We shot lots of different types of footage for instant moving camera shots with a steady cam, close shot (CS), long shot (LS), mid shot (MS), 2 shot and very close shot (ECU).
The video is fast pace.
We shot a few more dancers in our footage, so that we can play around with in post-production.
One of the dancers let us down, but still managed to get hold of another dancer quickly.
When we film in the live room in confetti, the room was really dark I was disappointed with that, but able to brightening up in post-production.
I used 3-way colour correction effect to help me brightening up the footage, and make the colour warmer.
I also used Gaussian Blur effect to make a nice misty blur look, to do this I drag the Gaussian filter to my footage and adjust the blur to 40% then I turn the Opacity down to 50%.
What really went well is everyone was up for it, and everyone was very patient during the filming.
The weather on the two days was really good so everything was on schedule.
I wanted to film more footage, but we needed more locations, which meant we need to travel more and that’s not appropriate for everyone.
Everything went really smooth at the end; and everything was on schedule. This is a new experience for me to make an unsigned music video.
I really enjoyed it from day one. I’m quite happy with the music video I made and the only thing I will change it’s the locations that goes with the music.
I would like to shoot at night in a rough area for example areas with lots of kids hanging around as if some crimes are going to happen.
After doing my risk assessment in these rough areas, the risk is very high. I know I will get turn down by my tutor so it’s not appropriate.
I think this will go well with the music video we’re making.
Next time I would like more people to get involved in my music video and to put a story into it.
Compare with my video treatment after post-production it was very plan, because I have never film a music video before so I was a bit confused.
Next time I make a music video, I will definitely think of the location that goes with the music and a story that goes with it. That will be more entertaining for my audiences.
